West Cork is great walking country with its mix of bare mountainsides, wooded valleys, country lanes and rugged coastline. The scenery is magnificent and seasoned with sites of historic interest. There are designated walking routes around Baltimore itself and on the islands, too. Nearby Lough Hyne Hill, or Knockomagh, is a bit more challenging as the path winds its way up through the remnants of ancient woodland. But the panorama of West Cork from the top is outstanding.
There are maps and guides available with suggested routes and detailing points of interest. While specialist operators offer guided walking tours in the area. You can also join one of the organised walking events that take place every year.
